Am I self-taught?
Hmmmm....
Self-taught is defined as "having no formal training" - so I guess the question then becomes "what is formal as opposed to informal training?"
I've been on one and two day courses with Peter Keegan, I've been on a short course run by Beverly Spiro, I've had half days and a few hours with various other folks - so is that formal?
What I can say is that I didn't go to art college - but I've looked over people's shoulders quite a lot.
I've always appreciated art and design, love seeing adverts and thinking "how does this move me?" - I've worked in marketing where layout, messaging, colour etc. are all very important.
But, of course, we all stand on the shoulders of giants - every piece of art we see trains us, every photograph, every image. The recent Netflix series Ripley is a cascade of wonderful images of Italy - each one could be a picture.
So, self-taught, no not really, but making my own way and learning as I go - certainly.
The other point is to be always learning - so I've been immersed in images since a child and will contrinue learning what I like until I die.
Perhaps "World-taught" is the better phrase.
